IES Test

The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) is the recognized technical authority on illumination,founded in 1906, it is a world famous lighting test institute.
IES LM-79-08 is the testing standard for Electrical and Photometric Measurements of Solid-State Lighting Products which was released in 2008.

This approved method describes the procedures and precautions for performing reproducible measurements of total luminous flux, electrical power, luminous intensity distribution and chromaticity of solid-state lighting (SSL) products for illumination purposes under standard conditions.

• Covers LED-based SSL products with control electronics and heat sinks incorporated. It does not cover external operating circuits or external heat sinks (e.g., LED chips, LED packages, and LED modules)
• Uses absolute photometry rather than relative photometry (historically the lighting industry standard) for the measurement of SSL.

Product testing report should include the following information:
The number of test parameters (total luminous flux, luminous efficiency, etc.);
Related energy value (an indication of the DC (frequency) or alternating current), the color temperature of the tested SSL product;
Running time before the test (new products should be 0);
Total running time including the settling time;
Ambient temperature;
Product toward direction when testing (light position);
Settling time;
The photometric method or apparatus be used ( Spectroradiometer, using Spectroradiometer integrating sphere system as a probe, Goniophotometer,  etc. ) ;
The name and type of reference standard ( power, lamp type, intensity distribution type - multi / single ), and sources;
Using the correction factor (eg, spectral detuning and self-detuning, intensity distribution, etc.);
Photometric conditions (means for Spectroradiometer ball diameter, coating reflection coefficient, 4π or 2π structure; on goniophotometer is luminosity distance);
Measurement of total luminous flux (lm) and the input voltage of each SSL products (V), current (A) and power (W);
Lumen intensity distribution (if applicable);
Color characteristics (chromaticity coordinates,Correlated color temperature white light products and / or color rendering index);
Spectral power distribution (if applicable);

English name: integrating sphere
